XinzhuangBeijing Fm

Period:
Cretaceous

Age Interval:
Early Cretaceous, K1xzB, (25c)

Province:
Beijing

Type Locality and Naming

Xie Jiarong erected the Xinzhuang series in 1933. The reference section is in the Xinzhuang-Dahuichang area of Fengtai district of Beijing.

Synonym: Xinzhuang Formation (Beijing) K1xzB 辛庄组

Lithology and Thickness

The Xinzhuang Formation is divided into three members. Lower member is built up by purple red conglomerate. Middle member is purple red lithic sandstone. Upper member is purple red mudstone. It is 281.0 m thick.

Lithology Pattern:
Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base of the formation marked by purple siltstone and mudstone is distinguished from the underlying Dahuichang Fm marked by brown yellow thick-bedded gravel-bearing sandstone. The Xinzhuang Formation locally contacts by fault with the underlying Dahuichang Fm.

Upper contact

The top is bounded by the gravel bed of the Changxindian Fm and is locally unconformably with that formation.

Regional extent

The present formation is distributed in a limited area and is only exposed in the Xinzhuang-Dahuichang area (Li Yougui and Xiao Zongzheng)
