Type Locality and Naming
Xie Jiarong erected the Xinzhuang series in 1933. The reference section is in the Xinzhuang-Dahuichang area of Fengtai district of Beijing.
Synonym: Xinzhuang Formation (Beijing) K1xzB 辛庄组
Lithology and Thickness
The Xinzhuang Formation is divided into three members. Lower member is built up by purple red conglomerate. Middle member is purple red lithic sandstone. Upper member is purple red mudstone. It is 281.0 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base of the formation marked by purple siltstone and mudstone is distinguished from the underlying Dahuichang Fm marked by brown yellow thick-bedded gravel-bearing sandstone. The Xinzhuang Formation locally contacts by fault with the underlying Dahuichang Fm.
Upper contact
The top is bounded by the gravel bed of the Changxindian Fm and is locally unconformably with that formation.
Regional extent
The present formation is distributed in a limited area and is only exposed in the Xinzhuang-Dahuichang area (Li Yougui and Xiao Zongzheng)
